Born in 1936, Richard Pepitone was predominantly inspired by the 1950s. Abstract Expressionism prevailed in the 1950s as a primary method of painting and explored ideas about the sublime and spirituality. 

Richard Pepitone maintains his studio on Bradford Street at The Commons in Provincetown where he still works and displays some artwork. Apprentice to Alfred Van Loen, studied in Florence, Italy at the Academy of Fine Arts. Opened his first studio in New York. A permanent resident of Provincetown for 51 years with recent shows that include Cape Museum of Fine Art, Berta Walker Gallery, and PAAM. Also exhibited at Barnstable Conservatory of Art, National Arts Club, NY, Wellfleet Art Gallery, Dana Arts Gallery, Colgate Univ., Reese-Paley Gallery in NY & SF. Has also taught at Castle Hill and Corcoran, DC. Considered a very well known and collected Sculptor.

AWARDS:

Richard Florsheim Art Fund Grant - Prearranged by the artist through the Richard Florsheim Art Fund and the Northern Arizona University Museum and Art Gallery, the artist seeks a museum that would like to have one of his or her works in the museum's collection. The Richard Florsheim Art fund provides financing for museums to purchase the artwork from the artist.
Artist-in-Residence Upsala Street School - The Massachusetts Council provided this grant for the Arts and Humanities and the National endowment for the Arts through a project of the Artist Foundation. Artist was provided a studio in a Public School for three months and was given a Twelve Hundred Dollars stipend per month; 36 Upsala Street, Worcester, MA. 
Artist-in-Residence Rhode Island School of Design Summer Program  - Provided studio space at the Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center and a stipend of five hundred dollars for three months; Mr. Hardu Kech, Director of International Studies and Affairs.

VISITING ARTIST-INSTRUCTOR:

1995 - Spent November and December in Sedona, AZ, working on a series of 14"x14" Raku vessels using the Sedona Clay Works as a studio base.

1977 - Rhode Island School of Design, Artist-in-Residence.
